Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Ziz Valley – Merzouga

The tour begins in the morning when your driver meets you at your accommodation in Fes. From here, the road heads south toward the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing through small villages and scenic landscapes. The first stop is Ifrane, a mountain town known for its alpine-style houses, clean streets, and cool climate. Due to its architecture and winter snowfall, many travelers compare it to towns in the Swiss Alps.

A short drive later leads to the cedar forests near Azrou, where groups of Barbary macaques live freely among the trees. Visitors often take time here to walk through the forest and observe the monkeys in their natural habitat. Continuing south, the route reaches Midelt, where a lunch break allows time to relax before continuing toward the desert. The drive then passes through the Tizi n’Talghamt Pass and follows the spectacular Ziz Valley, where thousands of palm trees grow along the river and form one of Morocco’s largest oasis landscapes.

Day 2: Full day in Merzouga

The second day focuses on discovering the fascinating surroundings of the Sahara Desert. The journey includes a stop at Hassi Labied oasis, where traditional irrigation systems support local agriculture. Continuing across the desert landscape, the route may pass the seasonal Srij Lake, which occasionally attracts birds when water is present. The trip then leads to Khamlia village, where local musicians perform traditional Gnawa music that reflects the heritage of communities originally from sub-Saharan Africa.

Another stop brings you to the M’ifis mining area, where minerals have been extracted from the surrounding hills for many years. During the excursion, there is also an opportunity to visit nomadic families who still live in traditional tents in the Sahara. Sharing a glass of mint tea with them offers insight into life in the desert. After returning to Merzouga for lunch, the desert experience continues with a camel trek across the dunes of Erg Chebbi

The ride takes you deep into the sand dunes, with a pause along the way to watch the sunset from the top of a dune and take photos of the changing colors of the desert. Upon arrival at the desert camp, guests are welcomed with tea before dinner is served. In the evening, traditional music is played around the campfire while the clear desert sky reveals countless stars.

Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Tinghir – Dades Gorge

Early morning in the desert offers the chance to watch sunrise over the dunes, a peaceful moment as the first light spreads across the Sahara. After breakfast and a shower at the camp, you return to Merzouga either by camel or 4×4 vehicle where your driver will be waiting. The journey continues toward Rissani, once an important trading center and former capital of the Tafilalet region. When visiting on market days, the traditional souk becomes especially lively as traders gather from nearby villages.

The route then passes through small settlements such as Touroug, Tinjdad, and Tinghir, where palm groves stretch across the valley. Soon after, the impressive Todra Gorge appears. Massive rock walls rise hundreds of meters on both sides of a narrow canyon carved by the river. Visitors usually enjoy walking through the gorge while admiring the dramatic cliffs. After lunch, the drive continues toward Boumalne Dades, arriving later in the Dades Valley, famous for unusual rock formations and beautiful landscapes.

Day 4: Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech

The final day begins with a scenic drive through Kalaat M’Gouna, known for its rose cultivation and annual rose festival. The road continues through the Rose Valley and the palm oasis of Skoura, where historic kasbahs are scattered among thousands of date palms. Arriving in Ouarzazate, travelers may visit the famous film studios and the historic Taourirt Kasbah (optional), both known for their connection to international film productions.

The next stop is the legendary Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village built from earthen clay that has stood for centuries along the old caravan route. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the kasbah has appeared in numerous films and television productions. After time to explore the village and enjoy lunch, the journey continues across the High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the highest road pass in Morocco. Along the way, several stops allow time to admire the mountain scenery and nearby Berber villages.
