- Itinerary
1
Day 1: Casablanca → Rabat → Meknes → Fes
Your driver will meet you at your accommodation or the airport in Casablanca, marking the beginning of your journey across Morocco. Leaving the modern coastal city behind, the road soon leads to Rabat, the country’s political capital.
Here, you will visit several important landmarks including the historic Kasbah of the Udayas, a peaceful fortress overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, and the impressive Hassan Tower, an unfinished minaret dating back to the 12th century. These sites offer a glimpse into Morocco’s rich history and architectural traditions.
Continuing inland, the route reaches Meknes, one of Morocco’s four imperial cities. Known for its monumental gates and historic buildings, Meknes was once the capital during the reign of Sultan Moulay Ismail. During your visit, you will see the famous Bab Mansour Gate, the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum, and the historic Sahrij Souani granaries and water reservoir.

Day 2: Fes → Ifrane → Azrou → Midelt → Ziz Valley → Merzouga Desert
Your trip continues south toward the Sahara Desert. Leaving Fes in the morning, the road climbs into the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing through landscapes filled with forests, hills, and traditional villages. The first stop is the charming town of Ifrane, known for its European-style architecture, clean streets, and cooler mountain climate. Because of its alpine atmosphere, it is often referred to as the “Moroccan Switzerland.”
A short drive later brings you to the cedar forests near Azrou, where groups of Barbary macaques live among the ancient trees. Visitors often stop here to observe the monkeys and enjoy the peaceful forest environment. Continuing south, the road reaches the town of Midelt, located between the Middle Atlas and High Atlas mountain ranges. This is a good place to pause for lunch before continuing the journey.
In the afternoon, the landscape gradually transforms as the route enters the spectacular Ziz Valley, where thousands of palm trees grow along the riverbanks below steep rocky cliffs. A scenic viewpoint offers a beautiful panorama of this lush oasis before the road continues toward the desert.
By late afternoon, you will arrive in Merzouga, where the towering dunes of Erg Chebbi rise from the horizon. Here, a camel trek begins across the golden sand dunes, lasting about an hour to an hour and a half. During the ride, you will stop on a high dune to watch the sunset and take photos of the desert landscape.

Day 3: Merzouga → Tinghir → Dades Gorge
An early wake-up offers the opportunity to watch the sunrise over the Sahara dunes, a peaceful moment as the desert slowly brightens with the first light of day. The first stop of the day is Rissani, a historic desert town known for its traditional market. On market days Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday the souk becomes particularly lively with traders selling spices, dates, fabrics, and livestock.
From Rissani, the road continues through several small villages including Touroug and Tinjdad, eventually reaching the town of Tinghir. Nearby lies the green Todra Valley, where palm trees and gardens stretch along the river. Just beyond the valley are the dramatic cliffs of Todra Gorge, where towering rock walls rise high above a narrow canyon carved by the river.
This impressive location attracts rock climbers and travelers from around the world. You will have time to walk along the canyon floor and enjoy the striking scenery. After lunch in the area, the journey continues toward Boumalne Dades, arriving in the beautiful Dades Valley during the afternoon. Dinner and overnight accommodation will be arranged at a local hotel or riad.

Day 4: Dades Valley → Ouarzazate → Ait Ben Haddou → Atlas Mountains → Marrakech
The final day of the tour begins with breakfast before leaving the Dades Valley and heading west toward Kalaat M’Gouna, the center of Morocco’s Rose Valley. This region is known for rose cultivation and the annual rose festival held every spring.
Continuing along the route, the road passes through the palm groves of Skoura, where historic kasbahs rise among the trees. The journey then reaches Ouarzazate, often called the gateway to the Sahara. Here you may visit the historic Taourirt Kasbah and the famous Atlas Film Studios, where many international movies have been filmed.
From Ouarzazate, the trip continues to the legendary Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. This fortified village, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Morocco’s most famous historical landmarks. Built from traditional earth and clay materials, it once served as an important stop for caravans traveling between the Sahara and Marrakech. Many films have been shot here, including Gladiator, The Mummy, and Sahara.
After exploring the kasbah and stopping for lunch nearby, the journey continues north across the High Atlas Mountains. The road follows the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the highest road pass in Morocco at more than 2,200 meters above sea level. Several scenic stops along the route allow you to admire wide views of mountains, valleys, and remote Berber villages.
By late afternoon or early evening, you will arrive in Marrakech, where you will be transferred to your hotel or riad. This concludes your 4 days desert tour from Casablanca to Marrakech, a journey that brings together Morocco’s imperial cities, desert landscapes, mountain scenery, and historic kasbahs.
